- Worthiness of the Organization – We seek to work with public benefit non-profits doing high-impact work that our consultants are eager to support. We choose to work with organizations that have significant impact, where we feel our efforts can multiply that value.
- Appropriate OD Project Focus – We tackle projects that fall within the realm of OD, not projects that require Marketing, Revenue or Finance, Legal, or IT expertise. We are facilitators of group process, not EXPERTS in specific areas! Also, the requested project or a potential project needs to be “doable” within CCP limited consulting projects duration of 2-4 months. (NOTE: The exception to this, is when a client is accepted for a 12–18-month engagement.)
- Organizational Stability – We typically work with non-profits that have been in existence for some time (not new start-ups). We are not experts in launching non-profits, and the challenging OD issues we desire to tackle usually emerge in more mature organizations. We want the organization to be financially viable, not be in danger of “folding” during the time of the consulting project.
- Organization size/resources – The organization has size and scale to warrant, absorb, and support OD work planned. They are willing to make a financial investment: $200 for pro-bono work or for larger non-profits our low bono rates (averaging $5-10K per round), so that ODN can sustain this work with them and other non-profits.
- Leadership support/trust – The client’s senior leaders see the need for and value of OD and there is an evolving, trusting relationship between the organization and CCP (as is discovered during the initial short-term engagement); we are plugged-in, connected, working in partnership with the most senior leaders in the organization. (Real OD must be driven from the top-down.)
- Geographic accessibility – During Covid we flexed to work virtually, so that makes it possible to consult anywhere. Our preference is to work with clients within the Portland/Vancouver metro area, which enables in-person meetings as well.
