How to Build a Six Figure OD Business You Love – August 11, 2020

July 21, 2020 by ODN Oregon

How do you build and sustain a profitable training and organizational development business, even during our current reality? Join Canadian entrepreneur Sarah McVanel, as she shares the secrets of how she grew her business from nothing to six figures in a year and how she's managed to sustain it (even during COVID.) We will cover what any non-MBA, super-smart, heart-based OD professional (like you) needs to know about launching and growing a successful, satisfying, profitable business you love!

If you are working within an organization, you’ll still want to join us. Learn what to do now to put you in control of your future (no matter what the economy throws at you). As an intrapreneur, you will find these business fundamentals insightful to make you even more indispensable than you already are.
This is a virtual event co-hosted with our ODN friends in Toronto, Vancouver, New York, and Chicago. Join us by attending this multi-regional partnership!

About the Speaker
Sarah McVanel helps individuals leverage the exponential power of recognition to retain top talent, fuel healthy teams and sustain healthy bottom lines. She speaks nationally on the topic, leads workshops, coaches leaders, and conducts organizational recognition program reviews.

Sarah is a Certified Senior Organizational Development Professional (CSODP), Professional Certified Coach (PCC) and Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL).

Sarah has worked at the senior leadership level and now owns boutique firm Greatness Magnified. She is an author of peer-reviewed articles and five books, including: "Forever Recognize Others' Greatness: Solution Focused Strategies for Satisfied Staff, High Performing Teams and Healthy Bottom Lines" (2015); "The FROG Effect: Tools and Strategies to Forever Recognize Others' Greatness" (2016); FLIP Side of Failing: How to Recognize and Leverage Greatness in Work and Life (2019); and ROCKSTAR: Magnifying Your Greatness in Times of Change (2020).

Calls for Racial Justice

June 17, 2020 by ODN Oregon

Nationwide and global calls for racial justice have touched many aspects of our lives since the murder of George Floyd and others, before and after him. The protests around the country and the world have prompted organizations like ours to confront enduring forms of racial discrimination.

As we, the Oregon Organization Development Network, confront our current lack of membership diversity and consider our future direction, we commit to lifting up the OD values, competencies and skills that promote Diversity, Equity and Inclusion goals. We pledge to improve our own knowledge, understanding and practices in order to offer programs that will equip our community of practitioners to support those goals in their work.

As our newly-elected Board takes office, we will work to address the implicit bias in our organization, and put in place structures that support a more equitable, diverse and inclusive network.

REVITALIZING OUR NETWORK
This year our network was about connection. Members connected virtually to create new friendships, learn from each other, work together, coach and encourage colleagues through this difficult year. We invested in developing and extending our leadership group and have begun to put in place action plans that will shift us toward growth and deeper connections throughout our regional professional community.

ENGAGE WITH OUR TEAM – EXPAND YOUR NETWORK
This time of rebuilding at ODN Oregon offers great opportunities to get involved and connect. Consider volunteering to grow your professional community and your learning.

  • Join a vibrant, diverse working Board, rebuilding a robust network to:
    • Communicate value to our members and increase your public exposure through speaking, facilitating and consulting opportunities and online learning resources
    • Grow our membership to build a more diverse network of colleagues: internal and external practitioners

A separate email will be out shortly listing the nomination and election process and inviting members to submit a nomination form for the Board.

  • Join invigorated, creative committees:
    • Programming: design and deliver learning events, interact with experts in our field
    • Membership Development: connect with new and tenured members, expand your network and business opportunities, learn from others
    • Marketing/Communications and Outreach: creative outlet to connect/network with employers, practitioners and educators

YOUR MEMBER BENEFITS – WHAT’S NEW
Throughout 2020-2021, we focused on our learning value by expanding programs/resources to enrich and deepen your knowledge base:

  • Delivered high quality, expanded monthly programs
    • DEI consciousness and practice panels
    • Barry Johnson returned to extend our Polarity lenses, addressing current issues
    • “Expanding Change professionals’ expertise the 2nd Wednesday of each month”
  • Offered creative consulting projects to gain hands-on experience (CCP)
  • Extended new offerings as member benefits
    • SLACK channel connects us all together asynchronously
    • Access to National ODN resources
    • Affiliation with ODN Regional Partner programs: Toronto, Chicago, NYC and Seattle, and expanded our local Partnerships (ICF-PDX)
    • VantagePoint Assessment training and certification program

LOOKING AHEAD: A BOARD PROMISE TO MEMBERS
As we emerge from COVID isolation, racial tension and political turmoil, our Board and I recommit to a more inclusive approach to grow membership diversity, add depth and breadth to our DEI and OD Fundamentals programming, further develop our leadership, provide opportunities for members to serve, and strengthen our financial foundation with sponsorships and community support.

Engage now! Volunteering creates a strong, valuable network for you, our OD colleagues and other change practitioners in our region.

Working together, we will learn from one another, challenge each other, build something of value.
