Helping Neighbors in Need

December 10, 2020 by ODN Oregon

Even this year, most of us have reasons to celebrate and give thanks this holiday season. At the same time, many in our community are struggling with basic needs like food and shelter. Oregon has one of the largest homeless populations in the country and winter is especially difficult.

We are inviting you to share a bit of your good fortune with our citizens in need. Even just a few dollars can provide a hot meal, a pair of shoes, a warm hat, or a night of shelter.

OODN has selected two well-known local organizations to support this year: Street Roots and Transition Projects. Both organizations are about more than giving in the moment. They are helping people to regain stable lives.

You can find out more about both organizations and make a contribution for lasting change HERE. If you donated during our holiday party, thank you so much for getting things rolling.

Donations will be open until December 31st. Funds will go to the organizations in mid-January, in time for the hardest part of the winter. Please give what you can, it all helps.

Thank you for supporting OODN and our community. We hope your holidays are safe and joyful.

OODN Leadership Team

Street Roots creates income opportunities for people experiencing homelessness and poverty by producing a newspaper and other media that are catalysts for individual and social change. Street Roots publishes weekly and the paper is purchased by vendors for $.25 who sell the paper for $1.00. The vendor keeps the $.75 and any customer tips. Street Roots also provides opportunities for personal expression and growth, lifting up the voices and stories of people experiencing homelessness and poverty. Find vendor contributions by subscribing online, reading award-winning journalism and vendor poetry, and buying the paper from (while getting to know) the vendors in the area.

Transition Projects provides life-saving, life-changing services to some of Portland’s most vulnerable residents. Each year, approximately 10,000 people experiencing homelessness receive shelter, medical care, and social services, while more than 1,000 people obtain affordable housing. Driven by a vision to end homelessness, Transition Projects delivers ongoing programs, resources and tools to aid those moving from the streets towards life stability.

MindShare – January 21, 2021

December 10, 2020 by ODN Oregon

Our twice-monthly MindShare meetings provide participants a rich environment for sharing professional experiences and challenges. This gathering of seasoned consultants and seekers, internal and external helpers and managers forms the core of how we support each other in building our community of practice across change disciplines and career situations.

People trade ideas and learnings with each other as we focus on the challenges individuals bring to the table. Coaching, mentoring, introducing different perspectives and reframes, all play their role in making these gatherings exciting and beneficial to all who come.

Hearing each other’s stories and different voices energizes us and builds relationships that extend beyond the “room.” Please join us on the first and third Thursdays of each month. All are welcome!

MindShare – December 3, 2020

Our twice-monthly MindShare meetings provide participants a rich environment for sharing professional experiences and challenges. This gathering of seasoned consultants and seekers, internal and external helpers and managers forms the core of how we support each other in building our community of practice across change disciplines and career situations.

People trade ideas and learnings with each other as we focus on the challenges individuals bring to the table. Coaching, mentoring, introducing different perspectives and reframes, all play their role in making these gatherings exciting and beneficial to all who come.

On November 18, fourteen people joined our discussion of a live project involving a multi stakeholder Innovation Tournament within a social environment highly charged by the summer protests for racial justice. Our second dialogue focused on the emerging tensions around the discomfort of an increase in microaggressions that comes from EDI focus. We ended with encouragement that we focus on what we would like our future equitable, diverse and inclusive society and business arena to look like.

Hearing each other’s stories and different voices energizes us and builds relationships that extend beyond the “room.” Please join us on the first and third Thursdays of each month. All are welcome!
