How to Talk with Anyone, Anytime, Anyplace, about Anything – September 27, 2018

August 28, 2018 by ODN Oregon

How to Talk with Anyone, Anytime, Anyplace, about Anything:
The Joy of Mindful Conversation

  • What is “Mindful Conversation?”
  • Why is it a critical 21st century organization competence and an essential leadership skill?
  • Why is it a challenge for so many?
  • Can it be taught?

This interactive presentation is appropriate for managers, consultants, trainers, coaches, and just plain folk who want to make a difference in the world. Learn how to recognize and engage in Mindful Conversation in your work and home life. Learn how to stimulate deeper, more satisfying, more productive conversations where openness, authenticity and respect are the guiding principles. Explore the power of personal connection, the (not so) secret tool for building top performers, strong teams, and resilient organizations.

Attendees will be invited to participate in the free diagnostic “Understanding Conversational Style” survey. Each participant will receive a confidential, customized report that describes his/her unique conversational style, its strengths and limitations, with suggestions for further growth.

Learning, Service, Networking: Oregon ODN at the World Cafe – March 20, 2018

February 21, 2018 by ODN Oregon

Over the summer, the OODN Board conducted a survey to gather information about what members and interested colleagues and friends look for in the OODN meetings. The top responses reinforced our three core values for the OODN :

  • Learning
  • Networking
  • Service

Our meetings since September have provided some of each of these experiences, and with our March meeting, we would like to combine all three of these themes in a creative way.

Three OODN/CCP members have volunteered to design and lead our session using the World Café format to include all three of our meeting goals:

  • Learning: We will begin with an introduction to World Café, a methodology based on the premises that for conversations that matter, the wisdom is in the group and all or us together are more wise than each of us by ourselves. Then we apply this large group practice to an important question following up on the 2017 OODN survey.
  • Service: In a real-time experience of World Café, we will engage in conversations focused on what we—members, friends and leadership-- can do to make the OODN programming more vibrant, effective and attractive for the remainder of this year and for the coming year.
  • Networking: World Café uses successive rounds of conversations to deepen our understanding of what is possible and desirable. This provides a great opportunity to talk with many of those who come to the meeting, and to get to know them better.

Willing to be Disturbed: Seeing the World in New Ways

December 7, 2017 by ODN Oregon

Willing To Be Disturbed: Seeing the World in New Ways

Today’s world challenges us find new ways to see and make meaning of what we see around us, in our interpersonal relationships, our families and our communities, and in our places of work.

In this highly participative session, we will use various maps and other representations of the world to:

  • explore one model of how we make meaning
  • experiment with identifying underlying assumptions, beliefs, metaphors and stories that shape how we see the world and ourselves in it
  • learn how to play with those stories, assumptions, etc., and determine if they continue to serve us
