OD Fundamentals Certificate Program – Starts October 16

September 16, 2019 by ODN Oregon

The Oregon Organization Development Network (OODN) and Cascade Employers Association have joined forces to create the Organization Development Fundamentals Certificate Program.

Beginning October 16, the program will take place on six consecutive Wednesday mornings from 8:30 to noon at the Oregon Dental Association in Wilsonville.

Topics include OD history and evolution; project start-up phases; diagnosis and feedback; developing and selecting solutions; implementation and results tracking; and consulting roles, coaching and putting it all together.

The standard price is $1,125. However, for OODN, Cascade, PHRMA and ATD members, the price is $750.

To register, go here.

For a great blog post, click here.

Please note that if you are a member of OODN in good standing and the $750 fee would be a challenge for you economically, there are some half-priced scholarships available. For more information, please contact Jathan Janove, ODN Chapter President, at jathan@jathanjanove.com.

Dignity: Addressing a Human Fundamental in Organizations – October 9, 2019

August 27, 2019 by ODN Oregon

What if we looked at OD challenges through the lens of dignity? What is dignity anyway? And how can dignity be a foundational discipline in OD work? What difference can this lens make on our professional impact for our clients and for the organizations we work in?

After a brief introduction on current research about dignity – drawn from the fields of international conflict resolution, leadership development, and organizational change processes – we will interactively explore how a fuller understanding of dignity and dignity-based practices can contribute to your professional practice when approaching typical OD challenges, such as:

  • client contracting
  • talent management, engagement strategies, and organizational culture change
  • navigating tricky ‘politics’ & power dynamics, or facilitating seemingly intractable issues between different stakeholders of an organization

About the Speaker

Sabine Amend is an experienced OD professional and the CEO of ti Communication USA, Inc. She has worked with clients from more than 50 countries, including representatives from Fortune 100 companies in the automotive, IT, health, and banking industries. Consulting, researching, and serving as faculty at Northeastern University-College of Professional Studies drive her ongoing inquiry and learning. Dignity as a lens has been resonant with clients, adding depth and practical impact to OD work.

Exploring and Implementing Visual Thinking with XPLANE – September 11, 2019

August 20, 2019 by ODN Oregon

Visual Thinking is a powerful skill that taps into our deepest biological capability for understanding. It enhances our ability to develop new ideas and designs, communicate those ideas effectively, and collaborate with others to make them real.

Visual Thinking uses tools – pen and paper, index cards, sticky notes, etc. – to externalize internal thinking processes, making them more clear, explicit, and actionable. It’s a way to collaborate, co-create, and ideate much more effectively with an engagement (meetings, one-on-ones, workshops, etc.)

Throughout the evening Marvin Gaviola will show you how to:

  • Use the visual alphabet
  • Get a better understanding of the value of Visual Thinking
  • Use Visual Thinking within an engagement – a skill you can immediately put to use in your organization

About the Presenter
Marvin Gaviola is a world-class visual thinker with over 12 years of experience honing his facilitation, design, and system thinking chops as part of the XPLANE team.

As a creative at XPLANE, he navigates the challenges of organizational change, business strategy, and design methods to develop creative solutions that delight for a variety of industries and clients. He is also well-versed in interactive, learning, UI/UX, experience, and information design. Marvin has worked with companies such as Mastercard, Harley-Davidson, Abbott, P&G, Autodesk, IHG, Cardinal Health, and Nike, to name a few.

As a facilitator, Marvin is eager to share his wisdom and expertise. He is well-known and loved for his sense of humor and his keen attention to detail, often seeing connections others overlook. If he had to distill his skills to one superpower, it would be his curiosity – he dives deep to find the best solutions.
