Overview of Special Interest Groups (SIGs)

    What are SIGS?

The Organization Development Network of Oregon, along with other professional organizations, sponsors a number of Special Interest Groups which meet around the Portland area. New SIGs can form at any time. The purpose for a SIG is to encourage OD and other helping profession practitioners to get together and share experiences, methods, materials, ideas, trends, etc. Participants cover the spectrum from practitioners with decades of experience to those just "checking out the field." SIGs are free to members however, some SIGs may chose to collect fees to cover expenses.

    How are SIGs structured?

SIGs are somewhat self-managed, thus there is no single process used consistently across all SIGs. The meetings are typically held monthly, run by volunteer "conveners" and may be informal or highly structured with anywhere from 2 to 20 people. SIG membership remains open, and participants are encouraged to come and go as their needs and time dictate.

How do I start a SIG?

    1. One or more people (conveners) decide on a topic or function about which they would like to learn more.
    2. Convener(s) determines a time and place for meetings.
    3. Announcements are on the website and the ODN Oregon member listserv can be used to spread the word.

    Community Consulting Project

The Community Consulting Program (CCP) is an outreach program sponsored by the Organizational Development Network of Oregon (ODN-OR). CCP brings together dynamic, short-term teams of OD/Training professionals to provide free consultation to Portland area, non-profit organizations unable to afford consulting services. Utilizing volunteers from our organizations, we form Consulting Teams of 4-6 individuals, backed by a Senior Consultant with 10-20 years of consulting experience. CCP teams work with a client for 2-4 months to complete an appropriate client project. (Link to Client Projects page)

Why Are We Doing This? ODN-Oregon seeks to advance the profession of Organizational Development. This program provides an opportunity to meet two important goals: Increase community awareness of the value of OD in enhancing the success of organizations and provide opportunities for OD professionals to learn, to network, and to serve. The Community Consulting Program represents a WIN-WIN for the ODN-Oregon, our members, and our community.
