Special Interest Groups (SIGs)

What is a SIG?

A SIG or Special Interest Group is a collection of Oregon ODN members who have a shared interest and who want to collaborate for learning and mutual support. SIGs provide an opportunity for members to come together around a common interest to share ideas and experiences, challenges and solutions. Participants cover the spectrum from experienced practitioners to those who are new to the subject at hand. There is no cost to Oregon ODN members to participate in SIGs.

What SIGs are currently available?

How are SIGs structured?

  • SIGs are set-up to run for a six month term. The life of a SIG can be extended beyond six months if the members agree.
  • Membership in Oregon ODN is required to participate in a SIG. With permission of the SIG leader, non-member guests are welcome to attend a SIG meeting or two before making a decision to join Oregon ODN.
  • Each SIG will determine its own charter. Charter elements typically include:
    • What? (SIG name and description)
    • Why? (statement of purpose)
    • Who? (leader/participants)
    • How? (frequency, logistics, recording minutes, duration, confidentiality etc)

How can I get a SIG started?

It's easy. All it takes is one or two members who are interested in a particular OD subject area who are willing to lead or co-lead a SIG. A brief description of the SIG is then sent out to OODN members with a call for participants. While there is no magic number of participants required to start a SIG, four to eight participants generally make for a good group dynamic.
