Overview
It is easy for OD/Training professionals to fall into the trap of becoming “order takers.”
• Yes, I can do a half-day teambuilding.
• We offer a great training program on that.
• Sure, I’d be happy to facilitate your strategic planning session.
• Yes, I have considerable experience and would be eager to help you analyze
and document that process.
In our desire to provide what clients ask for, we may lose sight of our REAL purpose, which is to improve organizational performance. True Performance Consultants connect with organization leaders in order to understand their strategies and goals and then link their interventions to those business needs.
To do this we must learn to pay attention to, and differentiate among, four levels of needs. Clients may express needs at any one of these levels. Your goal as a Performance Consultant is to ask the right questions to surface and link the needs across all four levels. Performance Consultants know how to reframe requests for service (i.e. “Could you do a teambuilding for my group?”) in order to ensure a clear link to performance improvement and organization impact.
In this skill-building workshop you’ll take a giant step toward establishing more credible relationships with senior executives. You’ll learn to use the Gap Map to identify organizational needs and develop a complete picture of your client’s situation. No matter where the client starts the discussion—even if it’s asking for a workshop—performance mapping helps us go deeper to identify the links between root causes, performance, and organization impact.
Are you prepared to do real Performance Consulting? Do you long to make a measurable difference? Do you want to position yourself as a value-add resource for senior management? Then join us in exploring how the Performance Consulting Model can provide the mental framework to LINK your OD work with the performance of the organization.
By attending this session you will:
1. Understand that the perceived value of your role is in improving organizational
performance – that is why people hire you and call you back!
2. Learn to use the Performance Consulting Model to frame, explain, and align
your work with improving organizational performance – be it quality, customer
satisfaction, or profitability.
3. Learn to use the Gap Map, and appropriate consulting questions to uncover
and LINK OD/training interventions as generating real value to the organization.
Presenter / Facilitator
Dan Vetter, President of Vetter Solutions, and long-time member of both ASTD and ODN, will facilitate this program. Dan’s personal mission is to make people (including businesses and organizations) successful. He humorously refers to himself as the Organizational Chiropractor, because he seeks to eliminate the pain organizations experience from misalignment.
Dan was a pilot trainer for ASTD National’s Human Performance Improvement (HPI) Certification Program in the mid 1990’s, and has since lead numerous training programs for professional trainer/consultants on Performance Consulting. He uses these skills and tools in his consulting work with a variety of clients.
Dan brings his 25 year background in training, quality, process improvement,
and OD to this topic, along with excellent facilitation skills that promise
to make this program engaging and worthwhile. gers and consultants, fostering
an environment in which team members can think together, decide together and
take action together is an important part of getting things done.
Location
University Place (Multnomah Falls Room)
310 SW Lincoln Street

Directions
Parking
As of late January, University Place has discontinued the $2.00 parking discount
for ODN-OR meeting attendees. Worst case is that parking for our meetings there
would be $3 per car for the evening. We hope to get that discount reinstated
and will be speaking directly with the PSU department that imposed the increase
on University Place's lot.
Other Parking Options:
1. Lucky in the Lot?: Some nights the booth has no attendant. On those nights
(and we have no way of knowing when that will occur) just park and come into
the meeting and you will not have to pay. If you see an attendant and don¹t
want to pay $3.00 try the next option.
2. Metered Parking on nearby Streets At the rate of $1.25 per hour until 7pm
when it is free. For example, if you arrive at 6:15 for the meeting you would
pay $1.00 for 48 minutes of parking. Use coins, bills, or credit cards.
3. Where to find open parking spaces: Some spaces may be available on Lincoln
Avenue directly in front of University Place. Many more open spaces can be found
to the West of University Place on Fourth Avenue. Even better places to find
close-in, available spots are on the small side streets that join 4th Avenue,
directly West of University Place and to the West of 4th.
4. Think Sustainability Carpool with another member. When we upgrade our website,
hopefully there will be better ways for members to contact one another about
such things.
