Shaping the Future of ODN, Part II

Facilitated by Ed Ferrigan, Pam Rechel and Rob Koch

May 9, 2007

Overview

We had a great turnout and lots of energy, at the March 14 ODN Community Visioning event. It was a beginning point-- and now let’s grow our ideas into action.

Do you have an idea for a future program topic? Perhaps you have an OD strategy or technique you’d like to share? Have an interest in facilitating a dialogue for a collection of your spirited and reflective OD peers? Now is an excellent time to step forward—with your calendar in hand!

Using the ideas generated at the March event as a foundation upon which to build, by the end of this evening and with your input, we will co-create a line-up of the next 10-15 months’ worth of terrific program topics.

So who will bring the topics to life? That’s where you come in! If you’re interested in becoming more involved with the chapter AND deepening/broadening your OD knowledge, this is your chance to sign up with 1-2 others to be a “host” on a topic of your choosing. With your hosting team, you will collectively take ownership for a monthly program.

What does this entail? You and your co-hosts will decide (at a later date—so bring your calendar) whether you will:

1) find (or be) a speaker on your topic
2) find (or be on) a panel to speak on the topic, and/or
3) design a group process that stimulates conversation and learning about that topic.

Time to get creative!

Curious about what will happen with the ideas generated at the Community Vision event in March? There were 12 themes discussed and your interest will determine what should happen with them next. Some topics could make good candidates for a Special Interest Group (SIG) and some could make great candidates for a monthly program discussion topic. When you come to this evening’s program you can vote with your feet!

Some of the 12 “open space” themes that could, conceivably, morph into one or more program topics include:

If you couldn’t attend the March event can you still contribute to this evening? Absolutely YES: you’ll be up to speed in a flash. If you did attend the March event and left with a desire to see something happen as a result: we hope you’ll come back to be part of making that happen. Here are some of the documents from the March meeting:

1. Open Space Mtg Notes

2. Open Space Themes Part I

3. Open Space Themes Part II

4. Open Space Themes

5. Open Space Group #2

6. Open Space Group #6

7. Open Space Group #9

8. ODN Barn Raising Graphic #1

9. ODN Barn Raising Graphic #2

If you have ideas for future programs yet would prefer to not be an “owner”—that’s fine too. Your ideas about which topics are of interest will be a big contribution.

So whether you're a seasoned OD professional or brand new to the profession, your involvement and energy are essential to design the Oregon ODN that works for you!

Pre-Meeting Session: Peer Coaching

You are part of a small peer coaching group of approximately six participants. You may participate in a group or if you choose, observe the activity. The Process: one person is searching for insight regarding a goal or challenge they are experiencing. The others in the group ask powerful questions to help that person gain new perspectives on their goal/challenge.
