Building Your Organization Utilizing e-Learning as a Tool

Jan Foster and Jamie Dickey, PhD

October 11, 2006

Overview

How are organizations using technology to address the following business challenges?

Please join us in a discussion of how organizations are using online learning in combination with online assessments, offline coaching and classroom training to create change in their organizations. Planet Productions, a Portland-based e-learning development company, has developed custom e-learning programs that stand on their own or work in conjunction with offline strategies for OHSU, Mercer HR Consulting, Nike, Intel, HP, Standard Insurance, Powell's Books, State of Oregon and many others.

As the old Chinese saying goes "one picture is worth a thousand words". By seeing samples of actual interactive, custom e-learning programs being used by well respected organizations, you will experience how well-implemented e-learning can:

Each example will be paired with a discussion of the business problem the organization was trying to address, the challenges in solving the problem, specific techniques used to achieve success and results from those efforts. You will have the opportunity to present your own challenges and the group will brainstorm how e-learning can address your challenge. Dr. Jamie Dickey, an OHSU educator with a strong interest in OD, will join our speaker in fielding questions from attendees. As a result of seeing engaging, well-designed e-learning, you will generate new ideas for how you can utilize online learning and tools in your organizational development strategies.

Jamie Dickey, PhD

Jamie Dickey, PhD, is Director of Interdisciplinary Education, Executive Coach and Assistant Professor of Psychology at OHSU. Jamie was tasked with exposing medical residents to a list of competencies as required by ACGME (the Accreditation Counsel for Graduate Medical Education). Dr. Dickey recognized the opportunity for providing a higher level experience that provided residents the opportunity to test and develop their skills toward proficiency. This was accomplished through a blended learning program that gives residents an opportunity to make critical decisions in a simulated, online experience and to practice skills and knowledge in a safe environment. The online learning experience was paired with reflective learning through an online journal, an online self-evaluation of competencies and offline coaching and developmental action plan.
