February 8, 2006 and March 8, 2006
Overview
First of two sessions. The second session is on March 8. While these two programs build upon each other and attendance at both will result in your maximum learning, you are welcome to attend the March program even if you are unable to attend the February program.
Leaders are being judged by a new yardstick: Not just by how smart they are, or by their training and expertise, but also by how well they handle themselves and others". - Daniel Goleman, Working with Emotional Intelligence
Emotional intelligence is now widely accepted as key to leadership effectiveness. It is also an untapped opportunity for greater productivity, creativity, and satisfaction - both personally and at work. There is much to be understood in how to apply EI as more research now indicates that developing emotional intelligence can positively impact sales results, health costs, and employee retention - to name just a few examples. In addition, as more and more organizations ready themselves for a widespread reduction of the baby-boomer workforce, learning about emotional intelligence can be a resource to help address this intellectual capital challenge.
As an OD professional, greater understanding of EI is an additional tool to assist your clients - and to enhance your own satisfaction, creativity and effectiveness.
As a result of participating in this two-program series, you will have a greater understanding of:
**What emotional intelligence is (and what it isn’t).
**The components of emotional intelligence.
**The best-known models of EI.
**The importance of EI in the workplace at individual, team, and organizational
level.
**An understanding of the importance of self-awareness as a foundation for developing
EI skills.
**An introduction to assessing emotional intelligence.
**How emotional intelligence can help your practice or your organization.
