July 13, 2005
Overview
Whether you are an external or internal OD Practitioner, you've no doubt been asked to demonstrate the business value of your efforts. But, what's the best way to do this? Take a statistics course? Enroll in Jack Phillips' ROI Institute certification program? Or, just "wing it?" While no one can dispute the value of tangible results, it can be challenging to document bottom line results for OD efforts that are not focused on "widgets" or strictly dollars and cents.
While there are no easy answers, Larry Ferguson, a fellow ODN Oregon member, will offer us a brief overview of different methods for understanding and creating value in our OD work. Drawing on case examples as well as his mentoring of other OD Practitioners, Larry will offer his own model for creating value-added results and applying them to your own OD projects.
Objectives:
Speaker
Larry Ferguson is a senior consultant with Compass Consulting Group (a division of Larry Ferguson & Associate, Inc.). His primary focus is on partnering with senior managers to identify ways of aligning performance with customer expectations to increase market share and customer retention. Some of his current clients include Nike IHM, OHSU, Cascade Health Solutions (Eugene), and Northern Cochise Community Hospital (Willcox, AZ). Not content with traditional approaches, Larry has concentrated on identifying ways of delivering higher value and individual/organizational impact for his clients. In essence, he has experimented with a number of different models for identifying value and ROI. As a result, he has learned some indispensable "Do's" and "Don'ts," based on 11 years of external and 5 years of internal OD experience.
