Creative Communication and Innovation in the Workplace

March 10, 2004
Harlan Mayer

Overview

Harlan Mayer, with Infinity Seminars, will present a talk on Creative Communication and Innovation in the Workplace. The talk will focus on a variety of creative communication techniques that can be applied to a variety of problems including HRD, training, leadership development, listening skills and planning. These skills are directly related to "emotional intelligence." Learning to develop "flow" within the work environment reduces conflict and allows for more effective training on all levels. There will be an emphasis on status relationships: developing an awareness of social status, raising and lowering your own and that of others, as well as understanding non-verbal communication. We will also look at how these techniques can lead to an environment where effective brainstorming and idea-generation become part of the organizational culture.

Harlan concentrates on training and consulting to business on ways to increase organizational effectiveness. As a specialist in nonverbal communication and creative development, Harlan's mission is to increase the creative powers and communication potential of his clients. He has worked nationally with Ben and Jerry's, Leader's for Sensible Priorities, and locally with the City of Portland, Habitat for Humanity and Portland School District. He is currently pursuing graduate studies in Industrial/Organizational psychology.
