The presentation is about a unique approach for doing whole system change in small to medium organizations. The approach uses a number of common OD tools as well as tools form other disciplines and is easily applied by OD practitioners. The approach necessarily breaks with a number of accepted OD traditions to make success predictable but violates no closely held values. One feature of this approach is that success is rapid, measurable, allows the client to pay for all consultant and other expenses prior to completion of the change effort. Methods and amounts of estimated results will be discussed. This presentation should interesting OD generalist, those who are interested in dealing with whole systems and those who are concerned with measuring change at the organization's bottom line.
About the Presenter
Mike Mitchell is an organizational consultant, a writer and a horseman. He has a PhD in Industrial Psychology and has consulted with numerous Fortune 500 companies and many Bay Area organizations. He has been involved with National ODN and has taught OD at Pepperdine. He is co-chair of the National ODN Conference Committee for 2003. When he isn't working, he can be found puttering, reading, watching old western movies or cooking.

Fellow OD folks: Bad news: For those who weren't at the November ODN meeting you missed one of the most interesting sessions you'll ever come across on the real nuts and bolts of how one seasoned and successful consultant does his stuff within client organizations. And you missed an truly awesome demonstration of a consultant sharing their best stuff from the personal tool kit.
Great News: Mike continues to be part of our group and what he did yesterday evening may impact and shift how the rest of us do learning together.
What was so heartening about his presentation? He did what few do in these presenting situations do (in fact he went further than anyone I've seen before in a brief presentation): he shared the real inside "how-to's" so that others, who find his approach appealing, could go out there and use it, too. Not only did he very clearly present his model for really impacting small and medium sized organizations, he welcomed questions and answered them directly. He also volunteered several times to be available for follow-up support to anyone after the session.
Giving away what we often see as OUR PERSONAL PROPERTY-- hard-earned knowledge, skills, tricks or whatever-- can be a challenge for many of us. The truth is that we are only the latest inheritors of what those before us have generated from their inheritance. Mike showed us a different way of being and doing as consultants. We can grow the pie together instead of living in the illusion that there is only so much pie over which we must compete. We can accelerate our own learning and power to make a difference as we do more of what Mike modeled so well. Thanks for the inspirational modeling, Mike!
