Dick Gilkeson has had a varied career starting with earning his MSOD as a graduate
of the first Pepperdine class that started in 1975. He has served in various internal OD
capacities including corporate OD manager while working for Tektronix here in Oregon and for
the Bechtel Group in San Francisco. In addition, he has served as an external consultant from
time to time over the last 18 years, with major efforts in assisting AT&T and the Baby
Bells in shifting from monopolistic to competitive approaches in running their businesses.
In addition, from the late 80’s to mid-90’s he directed his efforts mainly to serving
men with efforts to deepen their lives and co-founded and acted as managing editor for
MENTOR Magazine, a 40-page quarterly devoted to men’s issues, as well as teaching a
course at Clark College on gender studies. Working in this arena provided a unique laboratory
for exploring new forms of open governance, some of which is detailed in Dick’s chapter in
Harrison Owen’s book on Open Space technologies called "Tales From Open Space".
Dick and his partners also presented a series of Open Space camps for both men and women
during this same time frame.
He is a certified Hudson Institute of Santa Barbara Coach and has served on a
number of non-profit organization boards. In addition, he has had over 200 articles
published related to his hobby, and sometimes business, of collecting and auctioning sports
memorabilia.
Currently he has been assisting the Oregon Department of Human Services with a major
reorganization, and is on a steep learning curve regarding opportunities related to the topic
of Aging.
